HOW IT HAPPENED
  • On the second day of the Jo Meaker Classic at West Texas A&M University, the Mountain Lions finished the day with 13 new or improved provisional marks and four new school records.
    • It was a huge day for the men's and women's sprinters, beginning with the 4x100m relay teams. On the men's side, the relay team of Chris Hudnall, Brian Mosley Jr., Justice Mendoza, and Kymani Sterling improved on their provisional time from earlier in the season with an altitude-converted time of 40.63s to take third place. The women's 4x100m relay team of Victoria Farinas, Keyanda Bolton, Brittany Fuchs, and Kayla Zink followed suit as they also improved their national standing in the event with a second place converted time of 46.12s.
    • For Zink, the 4x100m relay was just the start of an impressive day on the track. The redshirt senior went on to improve her existing provisional marks in both the 100m and 200m dashes, posting respective converted times of 11.66s and 23.97s. Zink's raw 200m time of 23.90s breaks her own school record in the event by nearly two-tenths of a second.
    • Fuchs and Bolton joined Zink in posting huge performances in the women's 200m dash as both sprinters put their names on the NCAA qualifying list for the event. Fuchs was the second Mountain Lion to cross the line at a converted time of 24.26s, while Bolton was close behind her with a converted time of 24.34s.
    • Sophomore Melissa Moreni continued her upward trend in the women's 100m hurdle as she broke her own UCCS school record for the second time this season with a blazing raw mark of 13.78s. Her converted time of 13.82s is a huge improvement on her previous NCAA qualifying mark of 14.02s.
    • In the men's 110m hurdle, Chris Hudnall made a gigantic leap forward with a national qualifying time of 14.12s that registered as an improvement of nearly eight-tenths of a second on his previous personal best time.
    • Competing in her first collegiate heptathlon, redshirt sophomore Maggie Remsberg qualified for nationals with a 4,530 point performance that ranks as the second best mark in program history.
    • Two more school records fell at the throws ring, where Emily Arseneau and Sydney Marr made their mark in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively. At the shot put, Arseneau was the fifth overall finisher as she tossed a personal best mark of 13.82m to best her own record in the event. For the third time this season, Marr made an improvement on her school record mark in the hammer throw, this time posting her first provisional mark at 53.04m. Redshirt sophomore Anna Holland also made an impressive throw in the women's hammer throw with a personal record mark of 51.94m that ranks second all-time behind Marr in program history.
    • At the men's high jump, Skye Ciccarelli and Tanner Walsh each cleared a bar height of 2.08m to improve their season-best marks and boost their standings on the NCAA performance list. With the mark, Walsh moves into fourth all-time for the event, while Ciccarelli remains in second place all-time with his career best outdoor mark of 2.12m that was set last season.
    • For the third time in as many tries this season, Dakota Abbott came out on top of the competition in the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.52m that ranks just short of Abbott's current national runner-up mark of 15.66m. Peyton Turnage also made his way onto the national qualifying list in the triple jump for the first time this season after leaping to a mark of 14.98m and finishing third in the flight.
  • The UCCS distance runners were also in action at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colo., where a pair of provisional marks in the 1500m highlighted the events of the day.
    • The Mountain Lions littered the top-five of the women's 1500m, with redshirt senior Layla Almasri leading the way in second place with an altitude-converted provisional time of 4:29.04. On the men's side, freshman Joseph Hamilton ran a solid race to finish in 1:58.17 and take 14th place.

    • Among the only non-running athletes in action at the Colorado Invitational were the men's and women's pole vaulters. Sophomore Holden Daniels cleared a bar height of 4.40m to finish third in the men's competition, while Faith Caldwell finished with the 12th highest height on the women's side at 2.90m.
