HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
Cole Philip and the Mountain Lions found themselves in a 4-0 hole through the first two innings after the Grizzlies scored four runs on four hits for the early lead.
The Mountain Lion bats began to show some life in the top of the third and fourth inning with Jaeden Hegmann scoring from 90 feet on a wild pitch as Kasey Campbell sent a solo home run over the left center field fence. But in the bottom half of both innings the Grizzlies combined for five runs to take a 9-2 lead into the fifth inning.
UCCS stepped up to make it three consecutive innings of scoring to recover four-runs in the top half of the fifth with Campbell tallying another RBI off a double to the left center gap. The Mountain Lions capitalized on two more runs an at-bat earlier as an error by the right fielder scored Kiichi Sato and Hegmann. After Campbell roped an RBI double, Tyler Richardson welcomed ASU reliever Anthony Bleggi by jumping on the first pitch for an RBI single to cut the deficit down to three runs at 9-6.
Jon Sotto and the Mountain Lion defense worked through the Grizzly lineup for their first shutout inning in the home half of the fifth but ASU laid down a squeeze bunt an inning later to grab an insurance run to make it 10-6 heading into the seventh.
Coming off a scoreless sixth inning, the Mountain Lions made up for it in the seventh by cutting the deficit down to one run after an RBI double from Richardson and two-RBI double from Walker Rumsey brought the game to 10-9.
Another ASU solo home run in the home half of the seventh pushed the Grizzlies to an 11-9 lead, but the Mountain Lions bats were still heating up into the eighth inning.
Down two runs, Kit Wigington got the inning started with a leadoff walk to bring the tying run to the plate. The Grizzlies bounced back to get two key strikeouts, but Campbell continued to swing a hot bat by singling to left center to put runners on first and third with two outs. With one double registered his previous at-bat Richardson dug in to hit his second of the game to bring Wiginton in to score as he represented the go-ahead run on second base. It was now Macully Sehr's turn to do some damage and the freshman did just that by roping a two-RBI double down the left field line for a clutch hit with two outs to give UCCS their first lead of the game at 12-11.
In search of more runs, Hegmann put the Mountain Lions 90 feet closer of an insurance run by driving a ball to the right center gap for a leadoff triple in the ninth as Sato completed the process with an RBI single to send UCCS into the bottom of the ninth with a 13-11 lead.
Things got dicey in the home half of the ninth with a leadoff double from Cedrick Reynaud turning into a run scored to bring the Grizzlies within one run, but Joseph Harris held on to force a groundball to Sato at second base for the final out and 13-12 win.

STATS FROM THE DAY:
The Mountain Lions outhit the Grizzlies for the first time in the series, 18-16. UCCS went on to hit nine extra base hits including seven doubles.
All nine Mountain Lions tallied a hit in the game one victory with five of them notching a multi-RBI game. Kiichi Sato, Kasey Campbell and Tyler Richardson all had a team high three hits as Richardson finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and a team high three RBI. Campbell went to score three times in the game as he went 3-for-5 with two RBI off a home run and double.
Jon Sotto comes on in relief to claim the win after tossing four innings on the bump with six runs given up on nine hits with eight strikeouts.
Joseph Harris came in the last inning to register the save after giving up one run on two hits and one walk.
UCCS trailed for seven innings before taking the lead in the eighth as nine of their 13 runs were scored on two outs.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO
• Game two of Sunday's doubleheader had the Mountain Lions putting up the first runs as Kit Wigington picked up his second RBI of the series by driving in Jaeden Hegmann on a double down the left field line. UCCS' second run in the top of the first belonged to Caleb Stubbings who brought in Wigington on an RBI single to give the Mountain Lions an early 2-0 lead.
• Starter Evan Langston found the zone quickly as he silenced the Grizzlies through three innings to have the offense come back with Wigington launching a solo home run to deep right field in the third and Tyler Richardson coming around to score after his third double of the day in the fourth inning.
• Holding on to a 4-0 lead, ASU put their first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth off a Cedrick Reynaud solo home run to bring the score to 4-1.
• The one run for Adams State was soon erased by a four-run fifth inning by UCCS as Wigington supplied the power once again with a solo shot to center field for the Mountain Lions' first run and his third RBI on the day. UCCS quickly loaded the bases up after the home run which led to RBI's for Richardson and Macully Sehr who provided an infield single and bases loaded walk, respectively. Hegmann then sent a sacrifice flyout to deep right field to safely score Kasey Campbell and increase the Mountain Lion lead, 8-1.
• In the sixth, Campbell challenged Wigington for the longest home run hit on the day as the redshirt freshman blasted a long ball to dead center for three RBI and a 11-1 Mountain Lion lead.
• Langston came back out for the seventh inning where the Grizzlies showed some life by scoring two runs, but it was Langston and the Mountain Lions who held on by striking out the last Grizzly to post the 11-3 victory.
