HOW IT HAPPENED
- Graduate student Dawson Hopkinson posted the first of two Mountain Lion provisional marks on Wednesday in the men's pole vault as he cleared a career-best and school record bar height of 5.15m to tie for the top spot in the event.
- The second UCCS provisional mark of the day was established in the women's hammer throw, where redshirt sophomore Anna Holland blew past her previous personal best and broke the school record for the event with a mark of 54.18m. With her impressive mark, Holland joins teammate Sydney Marr on the NCAA Division II performance list for the event.
- The Mountain Lions found a great deal of success in the men's and women's javelin throws, with freshman Joseph Hamilton winning the event on the men's side and sophomore Caroline Walters following suit by winning the women's competition. Hamilton, who is traditionally a mid-distance runner, made his collegiate debut in the javelin throw and quickly made a strong impression as he recorded a mark of 54.70m that sits as the fifth-furthest mark in the RMAC this season.
- Hamilton was also in action on the track in his primary event of the 800m race and registered a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:58.96. Freshman Drew Braden was right behind Hamilton with a personal best time of 1:59.70 to take eighth place.
- UCCS added two more event wins in the women's hurdles events as redshirt senior Alexis Carroll won the 100m hurdle race with a time of 15.09s and sophomore Lizzie Waters took the top spot in the 400m hurdles at 1:03.47.
- Redshirt senior Hannah Meek competed in the women's triple jump and won the event by nearly half a meter as she leaped to mark of 11.62m. On the men's side, Peterson Bohannon was in action and finished in fourth place with a leap of 13.20m.
- Sophomores Ryan O'Neal and Michael Nichols were all over the track in the shorter distance races for the Mountain Lion men's team. The highlight of O'Neal's day was in the 400m, where he raced to a second-place finish with a personal record time of 48.53s. Nichols found success in the 100m and 200m races as he recorded a pair of second place finishes with times of 11.15s and 21.95s, respectively.
- For the women's team, freshman Amber Davis was the third overall finisher in the 200m at a time of 26.07s and logged a time of 57.68s for a second-place finish in the 400m.
- Freshman Anna Fauske ran an excellent race in the women's 1500m as she crossed the line at 4:45.53 for a third-place finish. Fauske's altitude-adjusted time of 4:37.88 narrowly misses the mark for being an NCAA qualifying time.
- Graduate student Sydney Marr was the top Mountain Lion finisher in the women's shot put as she tossed the fifth furthest throw in program history with a personal best mark of 12.08m.
- The UCCS men's throwers found themselves consistently towards the top of the pack as redshirt sophomore Justyn Loper earned a pair of third place finishes in the shot put (13.92m) and hammer throw (54.22m) while freshman Jarell Lucas took third place in the discus throw at 45.45m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Hamilton's javelin throw mark of 54.70m also amazingly ranks as the fourth furthest throw in UCCS program history.
- O'Neal's blazing time of 48.53s in the men's 400m dash ranks third all-time in the UCCS record book.
