Day 2: Three School Records Fall on Day Two at Spank Blasing Open
PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track & field teams finished day two of the Spank Blasing Open on Saturday with another impressive performance as they posted ten new provisional marks, broke three school records and won eight events.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Redshirt senior Kayla Zink had a busy day on the track, posting a pair of individual provisional marks and contributing to the Mountain Lions national qualifying 4x100m relay team.
- Zink started her day by teaming up with Brittany Fuchs, Keyanda Bolton, and Victoria Farinas to win the 4x100m relay race with an altitude-adjusted provisional time of 46.37s. In the 100m dash, Zink posted an altitude-converted provisional time of 11.86s to earn a second-place finish and come up just short of her season-best for the event that was set last week. Finally, the redshirt senior broke her own school record for the 200m with a first-place, raw time of 24.08s. Her converted 200m time of 2.15s also sits as a national qualifying mark.
- The men's 4x100m relay team of Chris Hudnall, Brian Mosley Jr., Justice Mendoza, and Kymani Sterling joined the women in posting a national qualifying mark as they also won the event by posting an altitude-converted time of 40.84s.
- Another school record fell in the women's 100m hurdle as sophomore Melissa Moreni became the first Mountain Lion in program history to break 14 seconds in the event with a raw time of 13.98s. Moreni's event winning time also provisionally qualifies her for nationals.
- Redshirt senior Lydia Pavlenko provided the third school record of the day for the Mountain Lions at the women's high jump, where she cleared a bar height of 1.70m to take a first-place finish in the event and provisionally qualify for nationals. At the men's high jump, Tanner Walsh tied his provisional mark from last weekend as he cleared 2.05m to win the event.
- Graduate student Dawson Hopkinson made an improvement on his national qualifying mark that he established last week, posting a second-place mark of 5.10m that currently ranks within the top-five in Division II.
- Peterson Bohannon continued his progression in the men's long jump as he posted a second-place finish and personal best mark of 7.47m to improve his standing on the provisional list and move into a tie for third-place all-time in program history. Redshirt sophomore Peyton Turnage finished fifth in the event and posted a provisional mark of 7.29m but was just short of his season-best mark of 7.37m that he set last week.
- Redshirt junior Dakota Abbott dominated the men's triple jump for a second straight weekend, posting a nearly identical mark as last week at 15.65m to easily win the event.
- Pavlenko and Audrey Bloomquist each recorded a pair of top-five finishes in the women's long jump and triple jump events. Pavlenko took third place in both events with a mark of 5.65m in the long jump and 11.60m in the triple jump, while Bloomquist finished second in the triple jump at 11.73m and fourth in the long jump at 5.57m.
- Going back to the track, redshirt junior Evan Graff ran the fourth fastest 5000m race in UCCS program history as he posted a national qualifying time with an altitude-converted 14:23.16. Redshirt freshman Kate Hedlund also finished fifth in the women's 5000m with an unconverted time of 18:24.81.
- In the men's 10000m race, graduate student Branden Bohling was just a few seconds off his PR, finishing in second place with a time of 32:06.96.
- The top overall finisher in the men's 400m was UCCS sophomore Ryan O'Neal, who sprinted to the third fastest time in program history with a mark of 48.64s. Freshman Amber Davis was the first Mountain Lion to cross the line in the women's 400m as she raced to a personal best time of 57.52s and finished eighth overall.
- Redshirt freshman Mason Ingallinera posted a personal record in the women's 1500m at an unconverted time of 5:07.02 to finish 16th.
- At the throws ring, Emily Arseneau earned a top-five finish in the women's shot put as she heaved to a mark of 13.35m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Brittany Fuchs and Keyanda Bolton joined Zink as top finishers in the 200m while also improving their status within the top-five of the UCCS record book. Fuchs posted an unconverted mark of 24.33s which ranks second all-time and Bolton improves her personal best time to a fourth-ranking 24.53s.
- In the 100m, freshman Victoria Farinas moved into third place all time in the women's record book with her raw time of 12.02s.
- The Mountain Lions have compiled 19 provisional marks and broken five school records across the first two meets of the 2022 outdoor season.
UP NEXT
- UCCS continues their outdoor season next weekend as they will travel to Grand Junction, Colo. to compete at the Maverick Multi & Open on April 1-2. Friday's action is tentatively scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., while Saturday's events are expected to start at 10 a.m.

Day 1: Throwers Take Center Stage on Day One of Spank Blasing Open
PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs throwers took center stage on day one of the Spank Blasing Open on Friday afternoon as the hammer throw and javelin were the only events in action at the CSUP Thunderbowl. The Mountain Lions finished the day with a new school record in the women's hammer throw to go along with three podium finishes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After breaking the school record for the women's hammer throw last weekend with a mark of 51.33m, graduate student Sydney Marr continued to better her mark this week as she surpassed her personal-best in the event with a third-place heave of 52.41m.
- In the women's javelin throw, sophomore Caroline Walters was the top finisher in the field of 13 competitors with a mark of 36.24m. Redshirt sophomore Kamryn Bohlken also placed in the top five for the event as she reached a mark of 32.54m for a fourth-place finish.
- Redshirt sophomore Justyn Loper was the lone Mountain Lion competing in the men's hammer throw and took a third-place finish after recording a mark of 55.91m on his fifth attempt.
- At the men's javelin throw, sophomore Thorben Hast led the Mountain Lions with a toss of 49.87m to claim a fourth-place finish. Also finishing inside the top-ten for the event were redshirt sophomores Daniel Furcron and Seth Richmond with respective marks of 47.09m and 46.08m.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions return to action tomorrow in Pueblo, Colo., for day two of the Spank Blasing Open. Running events will be the first to get started at 9 a.m., followed by the throws and field events which will begin at 10 a.m.
