PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team completed day two of the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Open on Saturday evening, coming away with ten new NCAA qualifying marks and 13 event wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lion men's and women's jumps group had a strong start to the outdoor season as they accounted for seven of the team's ten provisional marks on the day.
- In the women's long jump, redshirt senior Hannah Meek earned a first-place finish with a provisionally qualifying jump of 5.92m, while Audrey Bloomquist (2nd, 5.65m), Lydia Pavlenko (3rd, 5.53m), and Alexis Carroll (4th, 5.32m) filled up the remainder of the top-four in the event.
- Bloomquist and Pavlenko came back to compete in the triple jump and posted two more exceptional marks as Bloomquist jumped to a personal best and provisionally qualifying distance of 11.99m, while Pavlenko was just behind her in second place with a mark of 11.91m.
- On the men's side of the long jump, Peterson Bohannon jumped to the fourth furthest mark in outdoor program history at 7.46m to take first place and put his name on the NCAA qualifying list. Bohannon was joined on the outdoor qualifying list by redshirt sophomore Peyton Turnage, who jumped 7.37m and finished second.
- Redshirt junior Dakota Abbott jumped to an event win in the men's triple jump as he posted a national qualifying mark of 15.66m. Although early in the season, Abbott's mark is the furthest recorded mark in NCAA Division II up to this point in the outdoor season.
- Two more provisional marks were attained at the men's high jump, where Tanner Walsh and Skye Ciccarelli were the top two finishers as they each cleared 2.05m. In the women's high jump, Pavlenko established a new outdoor PR by reaching a bar height of 1.65m to take a first-place finish.
- In the men's pole vault, graduate student Dawson Hopkinson worked his way onto the DII outdoor provisional list after clearing 4.94m as the top finisher in the event. On the women's side, freshman Alison Van Dyke finished tied for fifth place and her mark of 3.38m now ranks tied for fourth in program history.
- Moving to the track, Dillon Andrews put his talents on display in the 400m hurdles as he won the event by posting a provisional mark of 52.82s (52.93s altitude-converted). Lizzie Waters was the top overall finisher for the event on the women's side, completing the race in 1:02.96, while Grace Wenham, Ashten Loeks and Maggie Remsberg rounded out the top four among the field.
- Redshirt senior Kayla Zink posted the final qualifying mark of the day for the Mountain Lions in the women's 100m dash, winning the race with a raw time of 11.81s. Redshirt junior Brittany Fuchs and freshman Maggie Gardella also finished within the top-three, posting respective times of 12.15s and 12.22s.
- Fuchs would return to the track in the women's 200m to post an event winning time of 24.33s, which ranks as the second fastest in Mountain Lion history.
- Freshman Kymani Sterling started his outdoor career with a spectacular showing in the men's 100m and 200m dashes. Sterling started the day with an event win in the 100m at a time of 10.73s before earning a second-place finish in the 200m with the fifth-ranking time in program history at 21.31s.
- Sophomore Melissa Moreni picked up a first-place nod in the women's 100m hurdle race as she finished with a raw time of 14.19s. In the men's 110m hurdle, Chris Hudnall vaulted himself to second all-time in UCCS history with a runner-up time of 14.82s.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- In addition to Bohannon moving into fourth-place all-time for the long jump, Turnage's mark of 7.37m ranks as the fifth best mark in program history.
- With triple jump marks of 11.99m and 11.91m, respectively, Bloomquist and Pavlenko move into third and fourth place in UCCS women's program history for the event.
- Pavlenko also made her way up to second all-time in the UCCS record books for the women's high jump with her event winning mark of 1.65m.
- Waters' 400m hurdle time of 1:02.96 ranks as the third fastest time in UCCS program history.

- The Mountain Lions will head back to CSU Pueblo next weekend to compete at the Spank Blasing Open. Next weekend's meet schedule will mirror that of this weekend with the javelin and hammer throwers competing on Friday afternoon and the remainder of the events taking place on Saturday.

Day 1: Mountain Lion Throwers Break Two School Records on Day One at Early Bird Open
PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team opened the 2022 outdoor season on Friday afternoon with a pair of school record breaking performances at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Open, hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In his first competition as a Mountain Lion, Sawyer Christopher wasted little time making his way to the top of the UCCS record book for the men's javelin throw as he reached an NCAA qualifying distance of 61.98m to take first place in the event. A pair of redshirt sophomores in Daniel Furcron and Jaren Albrighton also finished in the top-five for the men's javelin, with Furcron taking third at 48.45m and Albrighton finishing fourth with a mark of 47.91m.
- Another UCCS program record fell in the women's hammer throw, where first-year Mountain Lion Sydney Marr posted a second-place mark of 51.33m. Finishing just behind Marr in third place was redshirt sophomore Anna Holland who tossed 48.10m in her first competition of the outdoor season.
- In the men's hammer throw, redshirt sophomore Justyn Loper put his name onto the national qualifying list as he posted a provisional mark of 56.93m to take first place in the field of 13 competitors.
- Rounding out the UCCS events on day one of the Early Bird Open was the women's javelin throw, where redshirt sophomore Kamryn Bohlken was the top Mountain Lion finisher with a third place throw of 34.14m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Christopher's provisional mark of 61.98m in the javelin throw ranks as the top mark in program history by just over 6.00m.

- The Mountain Lions will return to the CSUP Thunderbowl tomorrow morning with a full squad competing on day two of the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Open.
