KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs Women's Soccer (11-2-4, 8-1-2 RMAC) works their way back into the national rankings as the Mountain Lions are tabbed the No. 25 team in the country, as announced by United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday.
The Mountain Lions have all of the momentum on their side with an unbeaten streak of eight straight games that includes outscoring their opponents 31-4 with the last four matches coming by way of shutout. Statistically, UCCS is averaging 2.35 assist per game for the 6
th best average in Division II with the Mountain Lions also ranked 12
th in scoring offense (2.82) and 10
th in points per game (8.00).
On the defensive side of the ball, UCCS has notched 10 clean sheet victories and has locked down opposing offenses by not allowing more than three shots on goal in the last four games. The Mountain Lions' goals against average has improved to .71 for the third best in the conference with UCCS also limiting offenses to an average of 8.8 shots per game.
At a regional level, United Soccer Coaches has UCCS ranked fifth in the South Central Region behind No. 23 Angelo State University, No. 14 West Texas A&M University, No. 9 Colorado School of Mines, and No. 1 Dallas Baptist University.
After week one of NCAA's Division II Regional Rankings had UCCS under consideration, the Mountain Lions will see where they rank in the region with week two scheduled to come out tomorrow afternoon.
As UCCS Women's Soccer awaits the regional rankings, the Mountain Lions will prepare for their final match of the regular season as they travel to Pueblo, Colo. tomorrow evening for a 7 p.m. match against Colorado State University Pueblo.
