NEW ORLEANS, La. – After winning the 2022 University of Wisconsin Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational in Kenosha, Wis., the University of University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team moved up to No. 14 in this week's United State Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Division II National Coaches' Week 4 Poll. After an idle week of competition, the women's program remains ranked at No. 4.
Receiving 135 points in this week's poll, the men's team won the 12-team meet and bettered second place Wisconsin-Parkside by 32 points and No. 17 Wayne State by 37 points.
Afewerki Zeru led UCCS by winning the individual title in 24:39.78. Zeru and the Mountain Lions defended their individual and team titles from the 2021 UWP Rosa Invite.
The Mountain Lions women's team did not compete last week. UCCS received 213 points in today's poll, marking the third time in four weeks they have possessed the No. 4 spot.
Colorado School of Mines claimed all eight first-place votes for 240 points in the men's poll. For the fifth straight week, Adams State University continues to lead the women's poll with all 240 points.
Both cross country programs will be idle this weekend before gearing up for the final regular season race on Friday, Oct. 21 at the UCCS XC Open.
