COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track & field teams combined to earn 16 event wins, register 15 NCAA Qualifying marks and break four school records while hosting the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.

INSIDE THE CRC UCCS INVITE
Location: Mountain Lion Fieldhouse | Colorado Springs, Colo.
Track Size: 200-meters
Elevation: 6,291 ft.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Three of the Mountain Lion's provisional marks on Saturday came at the long jump pits with UCCS taking three of the top four spots in the event. Sophomore Peyton Turnage was the top Mountain Lion finisher as he took second place, posting a jump of 7.50m to improve his provisional mark to the fifth-best leap in Division II.
  • Freshman Daryon Wilson and redshirt sophomore Peterson Bohannon finished just behind Turnage in third and fourth place in the long jump as Wilson earned his first provisional mark of the season with a jump of 7.38m while Bohannon improved his qualifying mark to 7.20m.
  • The reigning RMAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week Melissa Moreni picked up right where she left off last week, winning the 60m hurdle with a program record time of 8.61s. The mark was a personal best for Moreni and improved her provisional time in the event to a tie for seventh in the nation.
  • Sophomore Brian Mosley Jr., who joined Moreni as last week's RMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, did not disappoint on Saturday as he clocked a school-record 6.73 seconds in the 60m dash to improve his national qualifying mark to a tie for the seventh fastest time in Division II.
  • Senior Dawson Hopkinson made strong impression in hist first action of the indoor season, breaking his own UCCS school record in the pole vault with a first-place mark of 4.98m. Hopkinson's national qualifying vault ranks seventh in the nation and tied for first in the RMAC.
  • At the throws events, redshirt sophomore Emily Arseneau's impressive day began at the weight throw, where she recorded a personal-best mark of 15.83m to place third in the event. The Woodland Park, Colo., native then returned to close the meet with a gold medal performance in the shot put as she shattered her own school record with a national qualifying toss of 13.79m.
  • Thrower Justyn Loper made his indoor season debut for the Mountain Lions at the CRC UCCS Invite, tossing a provisional mark in the weight throw with a first-place mark of 17.94m before logging a third-place finish in the shot put.
  • On the track, redshirt sophomore Gavin Harden put together a tactical race in the 3000m, clocking a converted time of 8:17.48 to join the national qualifying list with the seventh fastest mark in the country this season.
  • In the men's 60m hurdles, sophomore Chris Hudnall claimed a second-place finish while making his way on the national qualifying list for the event with a converted time of 8.21 seconds.
  • Back at the jump pits, redshirt junior Dakota Abbott leaped to a gold medal mark of 15.15m to improve his provisional mark to eighth in the nation. Turnage followed suit with his second national qualifying mark of the afternoon as he jumped 14.48m for a third-place finish.
  • On the women's side of the triple jump, redshirt sophomore Audrey Bloomquist surged to a personal-record leap of 11.90m, which improves her national qualifying rank to 17th in Division II.
  • Senior Hannah Meek continued her dominance in the pits on Saturday as she won the women's long jump with a mark of 6.02m. Meek continues to hold the top spot in Division II with her jump of 6.37m that she recorded at the CRC Pre-Holiday Invite & Multi in December.
  • At the high jump, sophomore Skye Ciccarelli came up just short of his seasonal best mark as he placed second by clearing 2.08m. Ciccarelli's current provisional mark of 2.10m that was set earlier this season ranks tied for the fourth best mark in the nation for Division II.

BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • The UCCS record book for the long jump experienced a shake up after today's results, with Turnage moving into second place all-time (7.50m), Wilson making his way to the fourth spot (7.38m), and Bohannon sliding into fifth all-time (7.20m).
  • Hudnall's raw mark of 8.17s in the 60m hurdle ranks as the second fastest time in UCCS program history.
  • With her personal record mark of 11.90m in the triple jump, Bloomquist moves up to third all-time in program history on the women's side.
  • After this weekend's competition, the Mountain Lions hold the RMAC's top ranked performer in ten separate events.
