Mosley Jr. Paces Mountain Lions at Potts Invitational

BOULDER, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field teams registered a solid start to the new year at the Potts Invitational on Saturday as the team logged three event wins while competing against a field that included five Division I schools.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Brian Mosley Jr. got the action started for Saturday's meet in the men's 60m dash as he raced to a converted time of 6.84s to improve on his existing provisional mark and place third overall in the race. The Colorado Springs, Colo. native would follow up with another top-five performance in the 200m, placing fifth with a personal-record mark of 21.82s.
  • Finishing just behind Mosley Jr. in the 60m was freshman Josh Thorn, who registered a fifth-place finish with a personal-best time of 6.99s.
  • Redshirt junior Brittany Fuchs was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions in both the 60m and 200m, recording fifth-place finishes in both events. Fuchs raced to a mark of 7.76s in the 60m before logging a new indoor PR of 25.10s in the 200m race.  
  • In the 60m hurdles, redshirt freshman Melissa Moreni earned a first-place nod in the women's race with a mark of 8.78s, while sophomore Chris Hudnall sprinted to a time of 8.27s for a fifth-place finish.
  • Freshman Ryan O'Neal made a splash in the men's 400m, taking the top spot overall with an indoor personal-best mark of 49.01s. O'Neal's event-winning time ranks as the third fastest 400m mark in UCCS program history.
  • At the women's 400m, each of the four Mountain Lion finishers recorded personal records in the event, with freshman Alyssa Lopez placing fifth at 59.36s, followed by Grace Wenham (59.96s, seventh), Jentry Largent (1:00.65, ninth) and Emaleigh Papierski (1:01.08, 10th).
  • Redshirt freshman Kate Hedlund added another event win for the Mountain Lions in the women's 800m race, finishing at 2:17.04 to beat her previous personal record.
  • In the distance events, redshirt sophomore Emily Gentry completed the mile race with a time of 5:30.09, while redshirt freshman Kelsey Rycenga competed in the 3000m and logged a mark of 11:25.10.
  • The women's 4x400m relay teams closed out the meet with a pair of strong showings as the UCCS team of Wenham, Lizzie Waters, Layla Almasri, and Lopez combined to finished second with a time of 4:04.91, while Papierski, Largent, Hedlund and Gentry joined up to record a time of 4:18.66 and a fourth-place finish.  
 
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Mosley Jr.'s 200m mark of 21.82s ranks as the second fastest time in program history, while Justice Mendoza's personal-best time of 22.06s sits as the fifth-best 200m mark in UCCS history.
  • Fuchs improves her 200m indoor personal-record from 25.23s to 25.10s to remain ranked second in program history, while Margaret Gardella's mark of 25.51s moves her into fourth-place all-time in UCCS history for the 200m.
