Women's Soccer Moves Up Four Spots into No. 7 in United Soccer Coaches Second National Ranking

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Tuesday, University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team improved four spots to No. 7 in the latest United Soccer Coaches National Ranking. The Mountain Lions remain 2-0 on the season after a 2-0 shutout over Colorado State University Pueblo back on Mar. 10.

Dallas Baptist University currently holds the No. 1 spot in the country with an 8-0 record as they slid up six spots from week one's national ranking.

United Soccer Coaches college rankings, released every Tuesday during the regular season, are an indicator of the week-to-week status of qualified programs and in no way should be used as a guide or indicator of eligibility for championship selection. To be eligible for consideration in United Soccer Coaches college rankings, a school must be a member of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program. Division II rankings will only be conducted every other week.

The No. 7 nationally ranked Mountain Lions currently hold the top spot in the RMAC Standings and lead the conference in scoring average with 3.5 goals per game while tying for the lowest opponent average of 0.5 goals per game. UCCS' scoring offense finds their way into No. 5 nationally with their conference leading eight assists and 4.0 assists per game as their average assists per game ranks second most in Division II. With goals and assists comes points and the Mountain Lions also rank top-5 in the category of points by ranking third in the country with 11.00 points per game.

Individually, junior Amelia Junge finds her way into the RMAC top-10 in shots (6), goals (2), game-winning goals (1), and points (5) ranking 10th, tied for fourth, tied for second, and fourth respectively. Redshirt junior Tarah Patterson's 10 shots, six shots on goal, and three points also places her among the RMAC Top-10 leaders as she ranks fourth in shots, tied for sixth in shots on goal, and tied for ninth in points. Freshman Makayla Merlo has seen similar offensive productivity to Patterson and ranks right alongside her by ranking fifth in shots (9), tied for sixth in shots on goal (6), and tied for ninth in points (3). Redshirt freshman defender Makenna Fowler has posted two assists through two matches this season to rank tied for second most in the RMAC as redshirt junior Tori Maydew has netted two goals to tie for the fourth most in the conference as Maydew's game-winning goal is tied for the second most. In frame, redshirt junior Chloe DeShazer registered a shutout against CSU Pueblo to post the best goals against average of .000 with freshman Gabrielle Laipenieks currently ranking ninth in GAA at 1.000.

No. 7 UCCS is set to play their first match in over two weeks as they prepare to host Black Hills State University for a 2:30 p.m. match on Thursday, Mar. 23 inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
