Day Two: Hast Downs Heptathlon School Record on Day Two of CRC Pre-Holiday Invite & Multi
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team continued their impressive start to the season on Saturday as they recorded seven new provisional marks and registered six event wins on day two of the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invite & Multi.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- For a second straight day, the multi events got the action started at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse and Thorben Hast kept his momentum rolling from day one as he completed the heptathlon with a new school record of 5,275 points. Hast's personal-record mark was also a national qualifying mark that currently ranks fifth in Division II.
- After recording four provisional marks last week at the triple jump pits, the men's and women's team combined to add three new qualifying marks on Saturday. Hannah Meek finished second with a jump of 12.30m while Lydia Pavlenko jumped to a third-place 11.96m mark as they each improved on their provisional marks from last week. Christine Bailey and Audrey Bloomquist each added new provisional marks as they leaped to distances of 11.79m and 11.70m, respectively.
- On the men's side, Dakota Abbott took second place with a mark of 14.66m to fall just short of his triple jump mark from last week, while sophomore Peyton Turnage registered an NCAA qualifying mark of 14.60m to place third.
- The Mountain Lion's added two more new provisional marks at the high jump, with Faith Novess qualifying on the women's side with a personal-record mark of 1.73m to place second. In the men's high jump, Skye Ciccarelli improved his provisional mark to 2.10m with a second-place finish while Tanner Walsh also notched a national qualifying mark of 2.04m to take third.
- On the track, the Mountain Lions gathered another provisional mark in the women's 3000m as Layla Almasri took the gold medal with a time of 10:11.08. UCCS also saw four athletes record PRs in the 3000m race, including Riley McGrath (10:32.62), Ashley Frye (11:15.25), Sarah Bassett (11:12.31), and Mason Ingallinera (11:37.40).
- UCCS also notched a pair of gold medals in the 60m hurdle finals on both the women's and men's side. Melissa Moreni nearly matched her qualifying mark from the preliminary round as she raced to a time of 8.71s to win the race. In the men's race, Chris Hudnall narrowly missed a national qualifying mark by running to a personal best 8.26s.
- In the 60m finals, Kayla Zink (3rd, 7.52s) and Margaret Gardella (5th, 7.66s) each finished in the top five of the women's race while Brian Mosley Jr. (3rd, 6.81s), Kymani Sterling (4th, 6.90s), and Justice Mendoza also ranked in the top five on the men's side.
- Track events continued with the 400m as freshman Ryan O'Neal blazed to a second-place finish with a personal record time of 49.83s while Alyssa Lopez also established a new personal best with a mark of 1:00.17 to take fourth place.
- UCCS took the top three spots in the women's 800m with Liz Bindert placing first with a time of 2:24.23. In the women's mile, redshirt freshman Nadine Almasri was the second finisher as she recorded a personal record 5:43.91.
- At the throws, Emily Arseneau led the Mountain Lions with a mark of 13.06m in the women's shot put, while freshman Mitch Anderson tallied the second furthest throw on the men's side at 14.10m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Meek's triple jump mark of 12.30m currently ranks fourth in NCAA Division II.
- Ciccarelli's mark of 2.10m in the high jump moves him to third all-time in program history and currently ranks as the third highest jump in Division II.
- Layla Almasri's 3000m time of 10:11.08 ranks as the fifth fastest in the nation to this point.
- Through the first two meets of the season, the Mountain Lions have recorded 26 NCAA qualifying marks across 12 different events. The full list of NCAA Division II Indoor Qualifiers can be found here.

Day One: Meek Headlines 14 National Qualifying Marks on Day One of the CRC Pre-Holiday Invite & Multi
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team started off Day One of the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invite & Multi in an impressive fashion as the team notched 14 NCAA provisional marks and five gold medals on Friday at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After asserting their dominance at the pits in last week's season opening meet, the jumps team once again impressed as the men's and women's teams combined to record eight of the Mountain Lion's 14 provisional marks during Friday's meet.
- On the women's side, senior Hannah Meek took the gold medal in the long jump with a 6.37m leap on her sixth and final attempt that currently ranks as the top jump in Division II. Along with Meek, redshirt sophomore Christine Bailey also notched a provisional long jump mark of 5.77m to finish third while Lydia Pavlenko and Audrey Bloomquist came in fourth and fifth with marks of 5.59m and 5.50m, respectively.
- In the men's long jump, redshirt junior Peter Ackah was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions as he finished in third place with a provisional mark of 7.30m. Also finishing with NCAA qualifying marks in the long jump were Dakota Abbott (4th, 7.27m), Peyton Turnage (5th, 7.24m), Richard Safoh (7th, 7.18m), and Peterson Bohannon (8th, 7.16m).
- Multi athlete Thorben Hast would add another provisional mark in the long jump, posting a jump of 7.13m to take first place in the heptathlon long jump. Hast currently sits at the top of the pack in the heptathlon with 3,013 points after four of the seven events being completed today.
- The Mountain Lions would add four more provisional marks in the 60m, two each on the men's and women's sides. In the women's 60m, Kayla Zink established a new personal record 7.42s to improve on the provisional time she recorded last week and finish third in the race. Freshman Margaret Gardella also made an improvement on her national qualifying 60m time from last week as she finished fifth in the race with a time of 7.58s. Five Mountain Lions, including Zink, Gardella, Victoria Farinas, Brittany Fuchs, and Keyanda Bolton qualified for the 60m finals that will take place tomorrow.
- After narrowly missing a qualifying time last week, sophomore Brian Mosley Jr. and freshman Kymani Sterling broke through to post provisional marks on Friday in the men's 60m dash. Mosley Jr. raced to a second-place finish with a raw time of 6.81s while Sterling was just behind him in fourth place and crossing the line at 6.82s. UCCS will also send five athletes to the finals tomorrow, incuding Mosley Jr., Kymani Sterling, Justice Mendoza, Jahmani Sterling, and Michael Nichols.
- In the 60m hurdles, redshirt freshman Melissa Moreni raced to a new personal record 8.70s to take first place in the race and qualify for the finals in the event tomorrow. Moreni's mark also provisionally qualified her for nationals and established a new school record in the 60m hurdles.
- After making her way into the UCCS record book in her Mountain Lion debut, thrower Sydney Marr continued to impress as she notched a NCAA qualifying toss of 17.46m in the women's weight throw to take the top spot in the event.
- UCCS also found success on both the men's and women's side in the 200m dash. On the women's side, Brittany Fuchs took second place with a mark of 25.48s, followed by Kayla Zink in third place at 25.49s and Margaret Gardella in fourth with a time of 25.80s. In the men's race, Brian Mosley Jr., Justice Mendoza, and Kymani Sterling took the top three spots finishing with times of 22.35, 22.38. and 22.42, respectively.
- Maggie Remsberg and Ella McKinna-Worrell were the top two finishers for the Mountain Lions in the pentathlon as Remsberg notched 3,223 points and McKinna-Worrell registered 3,220 points.
- In the pole vault, Holden Daniels recorded a third-place finish on the men's side with a mark of 4.48m while Alison Van Dyke vaulted to a second-place finish on the women's side as she managed to clear 3.24m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Hannah Meek's long jump mark of 6.37m ranks as the sixth best jump all-time in Division II and breaks her own program record of 6.17m that she established last season. The mark also breaks the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse facility record.
- Richard Safoh's 7.18m leap in the long jump established a new personal best for the redshirt freshman and moved him into fifth-place all-time in program history for the long jump.
- Senior Dakota Abbott's long jump mark of 7.27m is a new indoor personal best and improves on his long jump mark that had already ranked fourth in program history.
