Baseball Receives 2019-20 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. – On Thursday, The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced that the University of Colorado Colorado Springs has earned the 2019-20 Team Academic Excellence Award for the fourth consecutive year.

The American Baseball Coaches Association's Team Academic Excellence Award honors high school and college programs coached by ABCA members that post a cumulative Grade Point Average over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year. To qualify for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, school's must be a high school or college team, the head coach must be a current ABCA member, and the team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2019-20 academic year (GPA may not be rounded up).

The UCCS baseball team achieved a 3.16 team GPA for the 2019-20 academic year as the Mountain Lions landed 13 student-athletes on the RMAC All-Academic team, including Matt Berg and Matt Clarke who received RMAC All-Academic First Team honors. Additionally, Clarke notched College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 6 First Team honors as he went on to being voted a CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team selection, becoming the first Academic All-American in program history.

UCCS is one of 56 NCAA Division II programs and one of only two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference institutions to receive the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.
