Austin Named RMAC Summit Award Winner For Second Time

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second time this academic year, junior Maia Austin of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track & field team has been selected as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Summit Award winner, announced Wednesday afternoon by the RMAC. 
 
The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) participating at the final's sites for each of the RMAC championships.

A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Austin boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Health Professions major in her junior year. Austin has hit the ground running during the 2019-20 indoor track season as she currently holds top-5 times within the conference in three different events including the women's 800m, mile, and distance medley relay. She also posted provisional qualifying marks in each of the three events as she helped clock the seventh fastest time in Division II at 11:39.28 in the women's DMR. 
 
Austin becomes the first Mountain Lion in department history to claim two RMAC Summit Awards.

All GPAs are based on a straight grading scale to ensure consistency among institutions. Any tie is broken by the number of credits completed.
 
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above, who participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and competing at the championship. Graduate students are not eligible.
 
Austin and the Mountain Lions will be competing in the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend on their home turf as they're set to host the conference championship on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29 inside Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.
