PREVIEW | Lacrosse Plays Host to Davenport in Home Opener

  • The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team (0-2) will play their first home game of the season on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020 against Davenport University (1-1).  First draw against the Panthers will take place at 4 p.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium.

  • The temperature at game time in Colorado Springs will be hovering at 32 degrees with a wind chill temperate of 22 degrees.  Winds will be coming out of the NW at 18 mph with partly cloudy skies.
 
The Series
  • Monday's match will be the first meeting between the two programs.
 
Scouting the Panthers
  • Davenport University enters Monday's game with a 1-1 record.  The Panthers won their season opener against Quincy, 19-4, but lost a 19-4 decision to No. 9 Lindenwood.
  • Ryann Deuel leads the team with six goals, one assist, seven points, 12 shots and 20 draw controls. 
  • Taylor Baker and Makenna Pitchford split time in goal.  Pitchford has started both games for the Panthers and has a 17.26 goals against average and a .071 saves percentage.  Baker's GAA is set at 8.02 after two games, and she has a solid saves percentage (.524).
 
Last Time Out
  • UCCS opened the 2020 season in St. Paul, Minn. at the Concordia-St. Paul SeaFoam Dome.  The Mountain Lions lost the season opener to the Golden Bears, 2-17, followed by a neutral site loss to Rockhurst University, 7-12.
 
Hot Takes
  • The Mountain Lions rank first in the conference in man-down goals (two), second in assists per game (2.5) and saves per game (14), third in shot percentage (.250), saves percentage (.491), and goals against average (14.50).
  • Natalie Church and Angela Naughton have scored a team high two goals each.  Church has a team high three points (two goals, one assist) and has added seven ground balls and won four draw controls.
  • Audrey Napp was won a team high five draw controls while Sydney Malcolm has caused a team high five turnovers.
  • Defending the goal are Kennedy Travis and Madison McGriff.  Travis has faced 43 shots and owns a 15.04 goals against averaged while making 18 saves for a .500 saves percentage.  She has picked up a team high 12 ground balls.  McGriff has stopped 10 shot attempts from going in goal and has notched a 13.69 goals against average and a .476 saves percentage.
 
UCCS Under Head Coach Christine Hatton
  • Head Coach Christine Hatton begins her fourth season on the sidelines for the Mountain Lions.  Hatton is 17-32 at UCCS and has coached 11 all-conference performers and 10 RMAC All-Academic players.
 
Upcoming Games
  • The Mountain Lions will stay at home next week to take on Northern Michigan University on Monday, March 2, and New England College on Thursday, March 5.  Both games will start at 3 p.m.
