COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field teams' last effort to qualify and improve on their marks for the upcoming Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Mountain Lions competed at the Air Force Collegiate Open in Colorado Springs where they did exactly that.
The Mountain Lions went on to post two provisional marks at the Air Force meet as redshirt junior
Layla Almasri and freshman
Justyn Loper not only improved on RMAC marks but notched two provisional marks in the process. Almasri worked her way into the top-10 in the women's mile by recording a new PR and provisional mark of 4:57.01 for the sixth best mark in the conference. Loper then claimed RMAC's top mark in the men's weight throw as he handled a stellar mark of 18.77m.
The marks kept pouring in for UCCS as
Kelsey Calhoun and
Anna Holland heaved their way into the top-18 in the RMAC for women's weight throw. Calhoun now ranks ninth in conference after a throw of 15.40m as Holland currently sits in 18
th in conference with a mark of 14.27m.
On the track, junior
Darrien Wells continues to climb the RMAC rankings week after week as he now settles into ninth in conference after a run of 22.15s in the men's 200m. Wells did not stop there as he ran the 11
th fastest time in the RMAC with a time of 49.92s in the men's 400m. For sprints student-athletes
Audrey Bloomquist and
Diana Reynolds, they ran their way into the top-18 in the women's 60m and 200m. Bloomquist clocked a time of 7.93s in the 60m to rank 16
th as Reynolds places her name in the 18
th fastest spot with a time of 26.27s.
The Mountain Lions now wait to see if their marks hold and qualify for the championship meet as the top-18 times/marks in the RMAC qualify for the championship meet. UCCS is set to host the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this season with the meet scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29 inside Mountain Lions Fieldhouse.
