LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & fields teams improve on their season best marks in the first day of the Texas Tech Shootout as the Mountain Lions competed against professional, Division I, and Division II athletes on Friday.
Junior
Sierra Suazo got the day started for UCCS as she posted her best mark of the 2019-20 indoor season with a throw of 16.24m to finish in eighth place. Long jump followed right after where junior
Kaija Crowe came up just short of her season best mark as she earned 10
th place in the women's long jump open with a provisional mark of 5.79m. Teammate
Hannah Meek also posted a provisional mark as she competed in the women's long jump invite where she finished in the top-9 to move on to the finals. Meek finished in the middle of the pack with Division I student-athletes as she leaped out to a mark of 5.98m for sixth place.
Senior
Will Ross competed in long jump invite as well, and the senior did not disappoint as he recorded a provisional mark on the men's side with jump of 7.13m as he finished in the top-9 to advance to the finals by placing seventh.
In the high jump, both the men's and women's teams worked their way to a top-10 finish as freshman
Faith Novess led the way with a third place clearance of 1.65m. Junior
Tanner Walsh for the men's team ended the men's high jump invite with a mark of 1.98m to tie for 10
th in the event.
Inside the track, the Mountain Lions only had one track event tonight with the men's and women's 200m. Junior
Kayla Zink improved on her season best time in the women's 200m by sprinting to a time of 25.04s, while
Deshon Elcock,
Angel Laca, and
Sam Repsher each posted season best times as they clocked in at 21.77s, 21.86s, and 22.25s respectively.
The Mountain Lions will be back it tomorrow with the first event of the day being the women's shot put, which will begin at 10 a.m. (MT).
