PREVIEW | Lacrosse Opens the 2020 Season in the North Star State

This Week's Games
  • The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team will open the 2020 season on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. (MT) against Concordia University-St. Paul in the Concordia Dome at Sea Form Stadium, located in St. Paul, Minn.  On Sunday, UCCS will face off against Rockhurst University at 10 a.m. (MT).

  • Fortunately, the Mountain Lions will be playing in a dome to start their season. Despite sunny skies for Thursday's season opening match, the high will be 4 degrees with a wind chill factor of -26 degrees.  Sunday's forecast will be partly sunny and a balmy 25 degrees.
 
The Series
  • Thursday's meeting against the Golden Bears of CUSP will be the first ever between the two teams.  CUSP finished the 2018-19 season with an 11-7 overall record.  Like the Mountain Lions, the Golden Bears are in their fourth year of existence as a varsity program.
  • A former member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Rockhurst University holds a 4-0 series record against the Mountain Lions.
 
Hot Takes
  • In just their fourth season as a varsity program, the Mountain Lions have been picked to finish third in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 32 points. 
  • UCCS closed the 2019 season tied for fifth in the league standings with a 4-5 conference mark and their first ever RMAC Tournament appearance, and a 6-10 overall record.  UCCS returns 19 letterwinners from last year's program, including 11 starters, while adding 12 new players to the program.

  • Head Coach Christine Hatton begins her fourth season on the sidelines for the Mountain Lions.  Hatton is 17-30 at UCCS, and has coached 11 all-conference performers and 10 RMAC All-Academic players.
 
Upcoming Games
  • Following this week's trip to the North Star State, UCCS will return home to Colorado Springs and will start a five-game home stretch on Monday, Feb. 24 against Davenport at 4 p.m.
