COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A troupe of University of Colorado Colorado Springs track and field competitors competed in day two of the Colorado School of Mines Winter Classic and Multi Meet, held in Golden, Colo., at Steinhauer Fieldhouse, while a trio of distance runners headed to the University of New Mexico Team Open.
On the track in Steinhauer Fieldhouse,
Kayla Zink finished second overall in the 60m dash, posting a time of 7.63. Adding hurdles to the 60 meters,
Cameron Tracy placed third in 9.21, just edging out teammate Terra Valdez in 9.24.
Natalie Church competed in her first meet of the indoor season, placing 15
th in the Mile with a time of 5:38.54.
Michela Hewitt and
Jalen Jordan tallied top-five finishes in the 400m dash, posting times of 1:00.04 and 1:00.57, respectively.
Three Mountain Lions placed in the top 10 in the 3,000m run.
Katie Novak finished third in 10:49.24 while
Meg Super (10:56.31) and
Molly Weir (11:04.04) finished sixth and seventh overall.
Christine Bailey,
Audrey Bloomquist and
Alexis Carroll placed third, fourth and fifth in the triple jump. Bailey jumped 11.25 (36-11) followed by Bloomquist's 11.24m (36-10.5) and Carroll's jump of 10.80m (35-5.25).
In the men's competition,
Eric Sierra closed out the heptathlon earning 4,119 points for an eighth-place finish.
Matt Hanson took home an individual title, winning the 60m hurdles in 8.27 seconds.
Brendan Young joined Hanson as an event winner when he leapt to a first place finished in the triple jump (14.19m, 46-6.75).
Deshon Elcock narrowly missed out on an event title as he finished second in the 60m dash in 6.82 seconds. Rounding out the sprints for the Mountain Lions were
Dillon Andrews (51.51) and
Angel Laca (52.04) who placed fifth and sixth in the 400m.
David Higgins clocked a time of 1:58.32 to place fifth in the 800m run.
Evan Graff and
Sam Nofziger were neck-and-neck in the Mile run, posting times 4:29.18 and 4:29.92 to finish 9
th and 10
th overall. Topping off the distance races was a 10
th place finish by
Will Young in 9:21.68.
In Albuquerque, N.M. at the UNM Team Open, three women's distance runners competed in the Mile run.
Kayla Wooten posted a time of 4:59.28 to finish in seventh place, less than one second ahead of
Maia Austin's seventh place finish (5:00.04).
Layla Almasri added a 14
th place finish in 5:10.97.
Both teams will return to Colorado Springs to compete in their home facility Feb. 7-8 in the Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open.
