Mountain Lions Climb RMAC Rankings After Day Two of Dr. MLK Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field teams finished out the two-day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational on Saturday as Mountain Lions competed in both track events and field events.

The young freshmen core continues to show no sign of slowing down as Parker Bays posted the third best mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) for men's shot put as Bays threw a distance of 15.63m, placing him sixth at the meet. In the 60m hurdles, freshman Maggie Remsberg fared well with a 9th place finish as she recorded a time of 9.32s. Fellow freshman Justyn Loper continues to get settled in nicely as a Mountain Lion as he added a 12th place finish in the men's shot put with a distance of 14.03m, after becoming the RMAC leader in the men's weight throw on Friday.

In the women's triple jump, two Mountain Lions jumped out to top-15 finishes with Audrey Bloomquist having the top UCCS mark at 11.09m to claim fifth place as Alexis Carroll notched a mark of 10.14m to take 12th in the event.

Junior Kayla Zink competed again on on day two as the sprinter raced to an eighth-place time of 7.74s in the women's 60m dash qualifying race to register the top Division II time in the event. On the men's side, Same Repsher was the top UCCS student-athlete in the 60m qualifying race with a time of 7.06s that placed him 15th. Deshon Elcock went on to compete in the men's 60m prelims where a time of 6.94s put the junior towards the middle of the pack in 17th place.

UCCS then closed out the meet on a high note as the women's 4x400m relay team of Aleksandra Anderson, Kaija Crowe, Dejah Glover, and Ashten Loeks clocked the best time in the RMAC as they raced to a time of 3:57.10.

The Mountain Lions will get familiar with University of New Mexico's Albuquerque Convention Center as they are set to compete in the UNM Team Open on Saturday, Feb. 1, while also traveling to Golden, Colo. to Colorado School of Mines for the Mines DII Invite & Multi on the same day.
