KINGSVILLE, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field program wrapped up the 2019 outdoor season with senior
Skylyn Webb taking the crown of national champion in the 800m on day three of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field at Javelina Stadium, hosted by Texas A&M University, Kingsville.
Saturday ended as a historic day for the now three-time national champion. After boasting the fastest time in the women's 800m prelims on Friday, Webb ran away with the national title today by clocking a time of 2:06.96. It was a tight race between Grand Valley State University's Rachael Walters and Webb through the first 600 meters of the event as Walters trailed right behind Webb, but Webb turned it on coming around the home stretch to create a sizeable lead and secure the First Team All-American finish. With the 800m first place finish, Webb is now the back-to-back outdoor women's 800m national champion. In NCAA Division II history, it is just the fifth time that a female student-athlete has won back-to-back titles in the 800m during the outdoor season.
Earlier in the day, junior
Charlie Forbes was set to race in the men's 110m hurdle final but was unable to race due to an injury that he suffered during prelims on Friday.
As a team, the Mountain Lion women tallied 14 points to finish T-17
th overall at NCAA Championships.
Webb caps off a stellar collegiate career that includes three national champions, four First Team All-American honors, four RMAC Track Athlete of the Year awards, four USTFCCCA All-Region selections, and eight All-RMAC First Team selections.
The Mountain Lions finished the 2019 outdoor season with the program's first ever conference women's championship, six national qualifiers, four All-American honors, and one individual national champion.
