KINGSVILLE, Texas – After day one of the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field program claim two All-American honors and set themselves up for a top finish for day two at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas.
Both All-American finishes came in a field event as
Hannah Meek and
Kaija Crowe filled up the women's long jump top-12 with black and gold. UCCS was the only school in the event to have more than one student-athlete post a top-12 finish. Sophomore
Hannah Meek secures her first career All-American award as she jumped to first team honors with a sixth place mark of 6.05m, which also gave her a podium finish. Fellow sophomore
Kaija Crowe posted a Second Team All-American finish by leaping out to a mark of 5.96m to finish 12
th.
Before her All-American finish in the women's long jump, Crowe competed in four events of the heptathlon where she currently sits in third place with 3,059 points. Crowe is well within striking range as she trails first place Lauren Huebner of Saginaw Valley State University by 135 points (3,194 points). The 110m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200m were the four heptathlon events that took place on Thursday, and Crowe registered a third place finish in the high jump (1.64m) and a second place finish in the 200m (25.05s) to help place her towards the top of the standings.
Sophomore
Kayla Zink competed in the 100m dash where she sprinted to a time of 11.79s to finish in 17
th place.
With Meek's sixth place finish, the UCCS women's team hast tallied three team points on day one.
The Mountain Lions will be back at it on Friday, May 25 as Crowe wraps up the women's heptathlon, starting with the long jump at 9:30 a.m. (MT).
Will Ross wil be making his first NCAA Championship appearance as he prepares to compete in the men's triple jump on Friday at 3:45 p.m. (MT).
Charlie Forbes and
Skylyn Webb will be competing Friday as well, with Forbes racing in the 110m hurdle prelims at 5:55 p.m. (MT) and Webb racing in the 800m prelims at 5:05 p.m. (MT).
