The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team will play host to Westminster College this Friday, Apr. 12 at Mountain Lion Stadium. The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN LIONS
After winning their last two games, the Mountain Lions now hold a record of 5-6 this year, including a 3-2 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). That record is good enough for fifth place in the conference, two spots higher than last week. Now 11 games into the season, the Mountain Lions have scored 165 goals (15 per game, both fourth in the RMAC) on 370 shots, awarding them a shot percentage of 44 percent (seventh in the RMAC).
Statistically, UCCS has 236 points (21.45 per game, both fourth in the RMAC), 21 free position goals, 71 assists (6.45 per game, both fourth in the RMAC), 262 ground balls (23.83 per game, fourth and third in the RMAC), 114 caused turnovers (10.36 per game, both fifth in the RMAC) and 173 draw controls (15.73 per game, third and second in the RMAC).
Individually,
Angela Naughton and
Kiera Lowe pace the offense for UCCS with 40 (ninth in the RMAC) and 39 (10
th in the RMAC) points this year. Naughton has 27 goals and 13 assists, both of which rank second on the team, and Lowe has a team high 29 goals (2.64 per game, both ninth in the RMAC) to go along with 10 assists.
Natalie Church leads the team in assists with 15 (1.36 per game, seventh and eighth in the RMAC) and is tied for third on the team in goals with
Brianna Martinez and
Madison Ellis with 16 each.
Church also leads the team in draw controls with 74 (6.73 per game, both third in the RMAC) while
Ellie O'Brien leads the team in ground balls with 52 (4.73 per game, both third in the RMAC) and caused turnovers with 29 (2.64 per game, third and fourth in the RMAC).
Kennedy Travis leads the team in the net as she has racked up 68 saves (6.18 per game, seventh and eighth in the RMAC) and has a save percentage of almost 44 percent (43.9, seventh in the RMAC).
LAST TIME OUT
UCCS is coming off of their best two-game stretch of the season as they crushed Adams State University 28-0, and took down Fort Lewis College 16-6. The 28 goal game marks the third game this season UCCS has scored 20 or more goals in a game. Five different Mountain Lions recorded hat tricks in the game (14 different players netted a goal) as UCCS had a running clock with more than 17 minutes left in the first half. The Mountain Lions finished the first half with 17 goals and would add 11 in the second half for good measure to earn their most dominating victory of the season.

Natalie Church,
Kyer Frederick and
Madison Ellis were the five with hat tricks in the game. Church led the way with four goals and three assists for her game high seven points, while Lowe was close behind with four goals and two assists.
Church racked up a season high 17 draw controls in the game, while
Ellie O'Brien led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with five and four respectively.
Kennedy Travis (4-2) and
Emma Becker (1-4) split time in the net in this game, with Travis tallying five saves and Becker tallying two.
The game against Fort Lewis was more competitive, but UCCS still dominated throughout the game as they outscored the Skyhawks 9-3 in the first half, and 7-3 in the second half.
Angela Naughton paced the offense with a team high four goals, while Lowe tallied two goals and two assists for her four points in the game.
Audrey Napp led the team in draws controls with six, while O'Brien and
Sydney Malcolm led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with eight and three respectively.
Kennedy Travis had five saves in the game on the way to her fourth win of the season. She was named the RMAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after her two stellar performances.
SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS
Westminster currently holds an overall record of 2-6 and a 2-2 record in the RMAC, which puts them in the sixth spot in the RMAC standings. To this point in the season, the Griffins have scored 56 goals on 163 shots, giving them a shot percentage of 34 percent. They also have 24 assists (80 total points), 11 free position goals, 186 ground balls, 74 caused turnovers and 82 draw controls.
Individually, Madie Ingman and Eden Freiberg pace the offense for Westminster with 14 and 10 goals respectively in the season. Ingman has four assists for her team high 18 points, while Freiberg has five for her 15.
Katie Hendershott leads the team in assists with six and has seven goals as well, third on the team.
Mikala Davis is the team leader in ground balls with 25. Kenna Tychsen and Audree Erekson lead the team in caused turnovers and draw controls with 10 and 21 respectively.
Davis is also the main goalkeeper for the Griffins, as she has racked up 72 saves in eight appearances and owns a 2-6 record overall.

The forecast for this weekend in Colorado Springs shows partly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 43 degrees on Friday. Winds are expected to gust up to 13 miles per hour.
