PREVIEW | Lacrosse Prepares for Two Road Games against Grizzlies, Skyhawks

THIS WEEK
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team will travel to Alamosa, Colo. and Durango, Colo. this weekend.  The Mountain Lions will face Adams State University on Friday at 3 p.m., and the Skyhawks on Sunday at 12 p.m. 

ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN LIONS
This weekend's road trip will mark just the second time this season UCCS has played a match outside of Colorado Springs, Colo.  Seven of the Mountain Lions nine games so far have been played at Mountain Lion Stadium, while a non-conference game was played at in-state rival Colorado College on Feb. 27.
 
UCCS is currently tied with Colorado State-Pueblo for seventh place in the conference standings.  The Mountain Lions are 3-6 overall and own a 1-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record.  UCCS is 1-1 in road games this season.  The Mountain Lions fell to CC, 18-13, before winning the conference opener at Oklahoma Baptist University, 23-4.
 
The final six matches of the regular season will be league games for the Mountain Lions, with four of the six being played on the road.
 
Angela Naughton leads the offensive unit with 34 points.  Naughton has posted 23 goals, 11 assists and attempted 54 shots while winning 23 draw controls.  Kiera Lowe has added 23 goals and six assists, while Natalie Church has chipped in 10 goals, 11 assists and won a team high 53 draws.
 
Lowe earned the RMAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week award after her nine-point performance against No. 12 Colorado Mesa University.
 
Ellie O'Brien leads the defensive unit with 4.3 ground balls per game, the third most in the conference.  She also ranks third in the RMAC in caused turnovers with 2.56 per game.
 
Kennedy Travis has seen action in goal in all nine games this season, making 58 saves while posting a 12.92 goals against average and a 2-2-0 record.

LAST TIME OUT
Lowe set a new program record for UCCS Friday night in a 19-15 setback to No. 12 Colorado Mesa University at Mountain Lion Stadium.  Lowe notched eight goals and an assist for nine points to set a new program record for most points and goals in a game.
 
Teammate Angela Naughton tied Natalie Church's program record for most assists in a game (four).  Lowe, who scored four goals in each half, finished with a game high 11 shot attempts.  Gianni Cannon and O'Brien combined to pick up 15 of the Mountain Lions 32 ground balls.  Church won a team high six draw controls while Sydney Malcolm and Holly Sodomka each brought in three.  Travis defended the goal all 60 minutes, making eight saves.
 
UCCS was outshot, 33-26, and were slightly edged in ground balls (33-32) and draw controls (19-16).

SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES
Adams State University enters Friday's match with a 0-7 overall record (0-2 RMAC).  The Grizzlies are getting outscored an average of 22-2 goals per game.  ASU is led by Savannah Penland who has notched six goals and attempted 31 shots.  Madison Gerchow has won a team most 27 draws, while Louisa Sanchez has picked up 12 ground balls.
 
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS
Fort Lewis College has competed in five games this season.  The Skyhawks are sitting in eighth place in the conference standings with a 1-3 record (1-4 overall).  Sunday's game will mark the Skyhawks first game on their home field this season – Ray Dennison Memorial Field.  The Skyhawks have been outscored, 71-42.  Abby Escandon has tallied six goals and 10 assists to pace the offense.  Defensively, Aitana Rivera has posted a team high 15 ground balls and caused nine turnovers.  Protecting the goal in Daris Wienk who has played every minute between the posts.  Wienk owns a 14.20 goals against average and a 1-4 record.

WEATHER FORECAST
Friday's forecast for Alamosa is slated to be mostly cloudy with a high of 61 degrees.  Winds are expected out of the South-Southwest at 15 mph.  Sunday's match in Durango is anticipated to be mostly sunny and a high of 63 with slight winds out of the Northwest.

The Mountain Lions will return home to play host to Westminster College on Friday, April 12 at 5 p.m. for their lone game of the week.
