GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Track & Field program registered four provisional marks and had four event winners in day two of the Colorado School of Mines Kit Mayer Invite at the Stermole Track & Field Complex on Sunday.
Junior sprinter
Deshon Elcock recorded a provisional mark on the men's side this weekend, as he finished as the top collegiate competitor with a third place time of 10.54 in the 100m dash. Sophomore
Kayla Zink repeated Elcock's provisional mark performance in the 100m by finishing second with a time 11.75, and beating out 20 other DI and DII student-athletes in the process.
Multis student-athlete
Kaija Crowe continues a strong outdoor campaign by posting a first place finish in the women's 400m by racing to a time of 55.71, which also provisionally qualified her for nationals.
Aleksandra Anderson and Dejah Glove helped shape out the top-3 of the 400m as Anderson took third (59.37) and Glover placed second (58.28) in the 400m. The women's 4x100m relay team of
Shewli Ghosh,
Brittany Fuchs,
Nicole Morpurgo, and Zink also joined in on the action by bagging a provisional mark of 46.40 to take second place in the event. Sprinters
Kayla Waterman, Fuchs, and Ghosh kept up with Zink earlier in the day at the 100m as well by claiming sixth, fourth and fifth place respectively.
After notching a second place finish while provisionally qualifying for outdoor nationals, the women's 4x400m relay team of Crowe, Anderson,
Skylyn Webb, and
Dejah Glover beat out five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) schools on their way to a first place time of 3:52.52.
UCCS was not yet finished topping events as
Cameron Tracy sprinted her way through the 400m hurdles to take post a first place time of 1:03.80.
Jalen Jordan (1:04.35) and
Grace Wenham (1:05.65) followed right behind Tracy as they finished in second and fifth place respectively.
The Mountain Lions then went on to record a first place and second place time in the women's 1500m with
Maia Austin's time of 4:46.44 to win the event, and
Ellie Enderle's time of 4:48.58 claiming second place.
On the men's side, middle distance runners
David Higgins and
Charlie Kieffer finished fourth (1:57.09) and fifth (1:57.60) place respectively as they competed in the men's 1500m.
UCCS track & field will be back in action in a busy Easter Weekend as the teams split up to compete in the Azusa Pacific University Bryan Clay Invite, Long Beach State University Invite, Colorado School of Mines Nature's Bakery Invite, and the Mt. SAC Relays.
