GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field programs had their distance runners compete on Saturday in day one of the Colorado School of Mines Kit Mayer Invite, as
Tim Howley of the men's team and
Marah Guzman on the women's side led the way for the Mountain Lions.
In the men's 5000m, senior Howley notched a third place finish in a field of 30 student-athletes and professional athletes with a time of 15:23.44. Redshirt freshman
Rafael Marmolejo-Daher was just behind Howley's third place time, as Marmolejo-Daher took fifth place with a time of 15:50.40 to record a personal best.
For the women's 5000m, Guzman competed against 24 student-athletes and raced ahead to a fourth place time of 18:31.64, registering the best finish for the women's team on day one. Senior
Lexie Greitzer was also able to register a top finish as she finished in sixth place with a time of 18:40.25.
The Mountain Lions will be back in action tomorrow, as day two of the Kit Mayer Invite will kick off with the pole vault, hammer throw, and discus at 10 a.m.
