3/8/2019 7:31:00 PM

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Track & Field program registered strong performances in day one of the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, as they set themselves up nicely for an even stronger day two inside Pittsburg State University Plaster Center, in Pittsburg, Kan.

After today, UCCS currently has three All-American honors with three different student-athletes who have qualified for finals tomorrow.

Student-athletes earned First-Team All-America honors by virtue of finishing among the top-8 in their events, including as a member of a relay, at this weekend's NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas. Second-Team All-America honors are for those who finished ninth through 12th in their individual events, or on a relay team that finished ninth or 10th.

In the long jump, both Kaija Crowe (5.81m) and Jada Carr (5.68m) claimed their All-American honors with an eighth place finish and 12th place finish, respectively. With a 12th place finish, Carr earned Second Team All-American. Hannah Meek made her first collegiate national championship appearance and just missed out on All-American honors as she finished 13th with a mark of 5.63m.

On the track side, the Mountain Lions went 3-for-3 as Charlie Forbes, Kayla Zink, and Skylyn Webb all notched top-8 times in their event to move onto the finals Saturday afternoon. Forbes competed in the men's 60m hurdles where he recorded a PR and the top time in the field as he sprinted to an astonishing time of 7.94. Forbes will set to race in the finals tomorrow afternoon 11 a.m. (MT).

Racing in the women's 60m sprints, Zink competed in the third heat where she finished with a PR and the fifth fastest time in the field of eight finalists. The sophomore is scheduled to race in the 60m finals tomorrow at 4:20 p.m. (MT).

In the 800m, Webb raced in heat one of two where she registered the top time in prelims and automatically qualified for finals tomorrow at 5:25 p.m. (MT). Her time of 2:07.76 leads the eight competitors and places her in a good spot for Saturday's race.

Entering the competition with the ninth fastest time in DII, the UCCS women's DMR team of Ellie Enderle, Dejah Glover, Maia Austin, and Layla Almasri finished with a time of 11:53.94 to place them ninth and give the Mountain Lions their second straight year of Second Team All-American honors in the DMR.

Along with Forbes, Zink, and Webb, Crowe will be competing as she prepares for the women's pentathlon. Crowe enters Saturday with the fourth best mark (3,770) in all of DII, and will begin day two of nationals with the high jump at 9:45 a.m. (MT).
