ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Track & Field program traveled to St. Louis, Mo. this weekend as they competed and finished day one of the WashU Invite, hosted by Washington State University in St. Louis.
The first day of the WashU Invite is known as the Distance Carnival with teams competing in the 5000m and/or the 10000m.
In the men's 5000m, UCCS distance runners
Willie Moore,
Sam Nofziger, and
Afewerki Zeru recorded top-15 finishes with eighth, ninth, and 14
th place times respectively. Moore raced to a time of 14:49.33, just beating out teammate Nofziger who ended up finishing with a time of 14:49.57. Zeru was just one second off jumping up three spots as he finished with a time of 14:54.10.
On the women's side,
Lexie Greitzer,
Hannah Ellis, and
Katie Novak were able to notch top-20 times with Greitzer leading the way with a 13
th place finish 17:37.37. Ellis and Novak followed with a 14
th and 17
th place finishes respectively as Ellis registered a time of 17:39.48 and Novak finished with a time of 17:47.37.
Senior
Tim Howley came out with the 10
th best time out of 101 competitors in the 10000m as he finished with a time of 31:09.11.
The Mountain Lions will continue competition tomorrow with day two of the WashU Invite as three student-athletes will run in the women's 1500m at 12 p.m.
