UCCS Records Another Strong Performance at Mountain Lion Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Saturday afternoon concluded the Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open, as the Mountain Lions had an additional six event winners, while also tagging on three more provisional marks inside Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.

Cameron Tracy got things going for UCCS in the women's 60m hurdles finals with a second place finish (9.24), after she recorded a PR in the prelims Friday afternoon (9.14).

In the 60m finals, sprinters Deshon Elcock and Kayla Zink finished in second and first respectively, as Elcock finished with a time of (6.94), and Zink finishing with a provisional time of 7.54. Elcock's second place finish was the top collegiate time in the event, while Zink's provisional mark stands as the tied for sixth best time in Division II.

Later in the day, Dejah Glover competed in the 400m where she took first place with a time of 59.45. Maia Austin (2:17.71) and Marah Guzman (10:57.07) followed suit by claiming first place in the 800m and 3000m respectively. Freshman Afewerki Zeru ran to a time of 8:53.87 to finish second in the men's 3000m, as the women's 4x400m team of Jalen Jordan, Diana Reynolds, Grace Wenham, and Cameron Tracy registered another first place finish (4:03.38) for UCCS .

During the field events, jumps student-athlete Will Ross and pole vault student-athlete Brenna Kuskie combined for two provisional marks. Kuskie finished as the top DII student-athlete in the women's pole vault with a height 3.63m. Ross finished as the event winner in the men's long jump, leaping to a distance of 14.51m.

After another strong performance by UCCS on the weekend, the Mountain Lions will look to keep the momentum rolling as they compete on Friday Feb. 15 at the United States Air Force Academy Collegiate Open.
