The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team will play host to Regis University in a non-conference match on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN LIONS
The Mountain Lions opened their season this past Saturday, Feb. 16, at home against Adams State University. UCCS dominated the Grizzlies, 24-1.
With one game under their belt,
Vanessa Nelson and
Natalie Church lead the offense with five points. All five of Nelson's points came from scoring goals, while Church has assisted on four her five points. Nelson and
Brianna Martinez have attempted a team high seven shots.
In 18 draw control wins, Church has won seven and
Audrey Napp has added another four.
Defensively, the Mountain Lions have caused 16 turnovers. Martinez has forced four turnovers and added two ground balls, while teammate
Holly Sodomka has caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls.

The Mountain Lions 23-goal win over the Grizzlies is the largest margin of victory in their three-year history of the program. The 24 goals scored are the second most in program history, three shy of last year's 27 goals at Palm Beach Atlantic on Feb. 17, 2018.
UCCS attempted 55 shots against the Grizzlies, crushing the previous record of 46. Thirty-five of UCCS' shots came in the first half, as did 18 of their 24 goals.
Ten different Mountain Lions found the back of the net, including eight players with multiple goals, and three players with hat tricks.
The Mountain Lions put the brakes on in the second half, attempting only 20 shots and netting six goals.
Madison Ellis,
Brianna Martinez and
Kiera Lowe joined the hat trick club, scoring three goals each.
Martinez and Nelson paced the offensive with seven shots each.
Church assisted on four goals and found the back of the net once for five points. Church tallied a game high seven draw controls.
The Mountain Lions defense was stout, stopping the Grizzlies on 10 of their 15 clear attempts and picking up 14 ground balls. UCCS forced ASU to commit 23 turnovers, 14 of which came in the first half.
Becker earned the win between the posts, stopping three shots on goal in 30 minutes of action.
Kennedy Travis defended the goal in the second half, stopping one shot on goal.
SCOUTING REGIS UNIVERISTY
Ranked No. 8 in the IWLCA Division II poll, the Rangers will open their season at home on Feb. 20 against Colorado State-Pueblo.
The Rangers and Lindenwood were selected by the RMAC Coaches Preseason Poll to win the title this year.
Senior Wendy Donier was picked as the Preseason Attacker of the Year after earning her third-consecutive All-RMAC First Team selection in 2018. Sophomore Elle Crawford was chosen as the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year after a remarkable debut season in 2018 that earned her All-RMAC Honorable Mention honors.
A total of six Regis players earned spots on the Preseason All-RMAC Team including both Donier and Crawford. Joining the two Preseason Players of the Year on the Preseason All-RMAC Team are sophomore attack Kyleigh Peoples, and junior attack Ali Vanek, along with reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Year, senior midfielder Sarah Myres, and senior defender Lauren Hurd.
