GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track and field program is in full swing for the 2018-19 season as the Mountain Lions traveled up to Golden, Colo. where 31 student-athletes competed in the first day of competition at the Mines Division II Invite & Multi, hosted by Colorado school of Mines inside the Steinhauer Fieldhouse.
As a team, UCCS currently sits in second place behind host institution Colorado School of Mines (95 points) with 68 points after day one. Individual events are scored as 10-8-6-4-2-1, men's and women's points will be combined for a single program score.
Men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon were the first two events of the day with
Sam Repsher (men's heptathlon) and
Aleksandra Anderson (women's pentathlon) posting top marks for UCCS. Repsher currently sits in second out of three competitors with 2,792 points as he recorded personal bests in the 60m (6.91), long jump (6.71m), and shot put (11.26m). Anderson set a PR of her own by finishing second in a field of nine competitors in the women's pentathlon with 3,057 points. Repsher will wrap up the men's heptathlon tomorrow starting with 60m hurdles at 10:30 a.m.
Freshman
Dakota Abbott jumped his way to a provisional mark of 7.14m in the long jump as he competed against 23 student-athletes to place second on the men's side. Senior
Jada Carr went on to record a provisional mark, as well as a PR with a mark of 5.77m. Carr's mark not only gave her a provisional and a PR, but also bested 19 others for a first place finish.
For the distance events,
Tim Howley registered a top-10 finish with a time of 9:01.34 to help notch UCCS two points in the men's 3000m. But senior
Lexie Greitzer recorded eight points with a time of 11:01.22 in the women's 3000m to help keep UCCS within the hunt.
In the pole vault, Daniels Cooper matched
Dawson Hopkinson's mark of 4.24m to bring the Mountain Lions a combined seven points. Sophomore
Brenna Kuskie posted another great mark for the second straight weekend by posting a PR and provisional mark of 3.63m as she finished in first place ahead of seven others.
The Mountain Lions continued to shatter PRs in the weight throw with sophomore
Sierra Suazo putting her old PR of 16.16m in the dirt with a provisional mark of 17.56m, good for second place and eight points. For the men's weight throw, sophomore
Colton Homuth made waste of his old PR of 15.15m by replacing it with a second place mark of 15.95m.
Day two of the Mines Division II Invite & Multi will begin with the field events starting at 10 a.m., with the track events starting at 11 a.m.
