DURANGO, Colo. – May 9, 2018 – Making their first appearance in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Tournament in program history, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team finished the tournament in eighth place overall with a three round total of 938. Fort Lewis College hosted the tournament at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colo.
McKenna Vanko and
Timbrelee McNair paced UCCS in the final round, tying each other for the lowest round shot by a Mountain Lion at the tournament (74). Vanko tied for 12
th overall with a 229 followed by McNair's 233 (tied-24
th).
The RMAC Women's Golf Freshman of the Year,
Julia Baroth, finished 36
th overall after carding a three round total of 236 (77, 80, 79).
Megan Vernon rounded out the Mountain Lions scorers with a 247 to place 59
th overall.
Alex Darwin's 250 placed her in a tie for 62
nd place.
Dallas Baptist University won the 12-team tournament after shooting a 901. DBU will join West Texas A&M University and California Baptist University as they advance to the NCAA National Championship Tournament next week in Houston, Texas.
Holly Winter of WTAMU and Kate Goodwin of Oklahoma Christian University are the co-individual champions with a 223. Goodwin, Casey Wild (Tarleton State University) and Emily Brennan (Midwestern State University) are the three individuals who qualified for the National Tournament.
