Women’s Golf Closes Season with Fifth Place Finish at Conference Championship Tournament

BOULDER CITY, Nevada – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team recorded a 333 on Tuesday in the third and final round of the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship Tournament, held at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.  The Mountain Lions finished their season in fifth place, accumulating a 79-over par 943 over three days of action.

FROM THE TEE
  • In her third and final round as a Mountain Lion, Emily Shimkus carded an eight-over par 80 Tuesday afternoon.  She notched nine pars and a birdie today to bring her three-day total to 223 (+7), tying her for third place overall.
  • Eight strokes and nine places behind Shimkus was Samantha Saile (231, +15).  Saile, who shot the lowest round of any Mountain Lions today (76), tapped in a two-over par on each half of the course with three birdies and eight pars.
  • Coming in third for UCCS and tied for 32nd overall was Rachel Penzenstadler.  The sophomore registered eight pars and a birdie in round three, resulting in a three-day score of 246.
  • After shooting a 95 today, Kaya Kshatriya finished in a tie for 37th place (248).
  • The Mountain Lions non-scorer is Olivia Florence who carded a 36-over par 252 (79, 83, 90), tying for 42nd place overall.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Colorado State University Pueblo won the 2023 conference championship title with an 899 (+29).  Three Pack golfers finished in the top 10 as Zoey Rodriguez and Kylie Severin tied for individual medalist honors, scoring a 218 (+2).
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • Shimkus and Saile led the UCCS squad with 29 pars.
  • Shimkus finished second overall with the most birdies, recording 10 birdies over 54-holes.  She finished second in par 4s (4.13) and fourth in par 3 scoring (3.08).
  • As a team, UCCS recorded 130 pars and 29 birdies.
  • Team champion CSU Pueblo accounted for a tournament best 150 pars, 33 birdies and two eagles.
