Emily Shimkus is on top of the individual leaderboard with a two-under par 70, leading the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team in the opening round of the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship Tournament. UCCS is currently in fourth place, carding a 305 (+17) at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.

FROM THE TEE
- Shimkus started the day with a double bogey on her first hole and two-over par on the front nine but settled in to shoot four pars and a four-under par 32 on the back nine. She tallied 11 pars and five birdies in the opening round.
- Tied for 20th place overall with a 77 (+5) is Kaya Kshatriya. The freshman shot a two-under par on the front nine behind three birdies but went seven-over par on the last nine holes to finish the round.
- Rachel Penzenstadler, Olivia Florence and Samantha Saile are currently tied for 25th overall and are two strokes behind Kshastriya. Penzenstadler sank two birdies toward a one-over in her first nine holes. Florence tallied 11 pars and one birdie while Saile accounted for 10 pars and one birdie.
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
- Colorado State University Pueblo shot a four-over par 292 to lead all 12 conference teams.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
- Kaya Kshastriya owns a 2.50 (-2) mark in par 3 scoring for a tournament best score.
- Shimkus is tied for the individual lead in par 5 scoring, posting an average score of 4.50. She is also tied for the tournament lead in birdies (five).
