DURANGO, Colo. – May 7, 2018 – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team opened the 2018 NCAA Division II West Region with a team score of 318. The Mountain Lions are tied for seventh overall (30-over par) at Hillcrest Golf Club (par 72, 6348 yards) in Durango, Colo. Dallas Baptist leads the 12-team field with a five-over 293.
Julia Baroth leads the Mountain Lions after the first day, carding a 77. Baroth birdied Hole 1 (par 4) and Hole 4 (par 5) and is tied for 15
th overall.
McKenna Vanko registered a birdie on Hole 1 and Hole 2 (par 4) and is tied for 24
th overall with a 78.
Timbrelee McNair carded an 81 (tied 35
th), one shot ahead of
Megan Vernon (82) and
Alex Darwin (83). McNair is tied for the fourth most pars in the field, sinking 12.
Three golfers are tied for first place with an even par 72. DBU's Brin Fariss and Addison Mitchell, and West Texas A&M's Jelina Fernando lead all 66 golfers.
Round two of the NCAA tournament will continue Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
