CHANDLER, Ariz. – For the first time in program history, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team have claimed the RMAC Women's Golf Championship title.
The Mountain Lions led from start to finish as the team shot a combined 893 (293, 302, 298) with
Julia Baroth and
Alex Darwin finishing first and second overall.
Baroth was +1 over par for the tournament, shooting a 217 (72, 71, 74) as Darwin was five strokes back with a 222 (73, 73, 76).
Teammate
McKenna Vanko finished tied for fifth with a 225 (75, 78, 72) as
Timbrelee McNair was right behind with a 229 (73, 80, 76), finishing tied for ninth.
Megan Vernon was also in the top 20, taking 17th place overall for UCCS as she shot a 234 (77,80,77).
The Mountain Lions dominated the field over the three rounds, which started with a tournament record low score of 293 on the first day and ended with the team winning by 24 strokes against second place finishers Colorado Mesa.
The win gives UCCS the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II West Regional tournament, which will be held May 7-9 at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colo. It will be the program's first-ever NCAA appearance.
