DENVER – Competing in their second meet of the season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team won the ninth annual MSU Denver Roadrunners Men's 8K Invitational at Washington Park Saturday morning, scoring 47 points to edge No. 13 Dallas Baptist University by three points.
Tim Howley scored two points as he crossed the finish line fifth overall and second among Division II competitors with a time of 25:26.7.
Afeworki Zeru was on the heels of Howley and added three team points with a time of 25:29.7.
Willie Moore also finished in the top 10 of Division II runners, recording a time of 25:58.1 for 10 team points.
Sam Nofziger (14
th place, 26:07.5) and
Ben Patzer (18
th place, 26:21.6) rounded out the Mountain Lions top five scorers to help UCCS win the 12-team race.
In the women's 6K race, Jenny Smith and Sophia Stephan competed for the Mountain Lions. Smith placed 77
th overall (25:11.5), followed by Stephan's 90
th place finish in 25:53.4.
The Mountain Lions men's team will return to competition Oct. 20 at the Western Washington Classic in Bellingham, Wash. The UCCS women's team will head to Hays, Kan. next Saturday for the FHSU Tiger Open.
