DURANGO, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs freshman
Julia Baroth recorded her best round of the season with a 1-over 72 as the Mountain Lions tied for sixth in the opening round of the Skyhawk West Regional Preview today at Hillcrest Golf Club. UCCS is tied as the top team from the RMAC in the 20-team field.
Baroth tied for third among the 100 golfers in the competition and is the top RMAC golfer. She made a pair of birdies within a three-hole span on the back nine and is three strokes off the lead held by Dallas Baptist's Addison Mitchell. Baroth improved her season-best in relation to par by one stroke from the Farmers Insurance Invitational earlier this season.
McKenna Vanko finished four strokes behind Baroth and tied for No. 24 with a 5-over 76.
Alex Darwin tied for No. 31 with a 77, and
Regina Dillon and
Timbrelee McNair tied for the final team score with a 10-over 81.
The Mountain Lions tied with Colorado State-Pueblo with a 22-over 306 in today's round. The two are six strokes behind second-place West Texas A&M.
UCCS will be paired with CSU-Pueblo, fifth-place California Baptist and eighth-place Simon Fraser in Tuesday's final round. The teams will tee off at 9 a.m., on holes four through seven.
