Megan Lund continued her post-UCCS running career in style last weekend, qualifying for the U.S. Mountain running team to compete at the World Mountain Running Championships in Italy next month.
Lund is one of several female UCCS alumni competing at the highest level following successful stints on the Mountain Lion roster. This last December, former Mountain Lions Amanda Occhi and Ashley Birger teamed up once again with Lund while representing the BRC Adidas Retail Race Team based out of Colorado Springs. Their team went on to win the USATF Club Cross Country Championships in Spokane, Washington. Elsewhere former UCCS distance runner Sarah Shepard has also impressive on the national road racing circuit since leaving the hall ways of UCCS along with recent graduate Shannon Payne, who finished 16th at the US National Cross-Country Championships this year.
Lund qualified for the US team at the challenging Cheyenne Canon Teva Trail Race in Colorado Springs. It was the final qualifying race to decide the last spots on the US team.
"I knew I was going to have to run really fast to qualify for the team. I ran mentally tough and when I passed anyone, I passed them hard so I knew they wouldn't come back,"Â Lund commented about her race.
This is Lund's first time representing a national team and follows a successful 2008 where she qualified for the US Olympic Trials in the Marathon.
