TUCSON, Ariz. –
Regina Dillon hit a season-best 78 and tied for the team lead with
Alex Darwin as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs finished the first round of the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational today at the Lodge at Ventana Canyon. The Mountain Lions are No. 15 at 46 strokes over par and one of six teams within six strokes of each other.
Dillon improved her season-best by one stroke from the opening round of the RMAC South event on Oct. 10, and did so with a pair of birdies in today's round. She and Darwin tied for the fifth-best round for a Mountain Lion this season and the second-best of the spring season. The two are tied for No. 26 in the standings and are seven strokes off of the lead.
Raquell Castillo shot a 16-over 88, and
Timbrelee McNair and
Forre Zook tied for the last team score for UCCS with an 18-over 90. The 334 team score for the Mountain Lions is the best first-round score of the spring. UCCS is six strokes behind the No. 10 teams of Colorado State-Pueblo and Newman, with Western New Mexico, Colorado Mesa and Angelo State in the middle of the spread.
UCCS will be paired with Angelo State and Colorado Mesa for Tuesday's final round. The teams will start from holes 12 through 14 at 9 a.m., MDT.
