Darwin Runner-Up as UCCS Finishes Third at RMAC Tournament

CHANDLER, Ariz. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior Alex Darwin finished as the conference runner-up for the second straight season and led the Mountain Lions to a third-place finish at the 2017 RMAC Tournament at the Ocotillo Golf Resort. UCCS posted its best tournament score of the season with a 634 for 58 strokes over par.
 
Darwin earned a spot on the All-Tournament team with a five-over 149 and tied her season-best round with a two-over 74 today. Her 149 today is the best tournament score for UCCS this season and the second-best in her career, behind her 145 at the conference tournament last season. Darwin finished two strokes behind the champion, Jacquelyn Proman of Colorado State-Pueblo.
 
Timbrelee McNair turned in the second team score with an 81 today, one stroke off of her score yesterday. She tied for No. 15 with a 17-over 161 in her first top-15 finish and best tournament score since the season-opening CSU-Pueblo Invitational in September.
 
Megan Vernon and Regina Dillon both closed out the team score with an 82 today. Dillon opened today's round with par on the first five holes and Vernon made her second birdie of the tournament on the par-three hole 12. Vernon tied for No. 21 in her best tournament finish of the season in a 19-over 163 and Dillon placed ninth among freshmen and No. 29 overall with a 24-over 168.
 
Raquell Castillo finished her collegiate career with an 84 today and tied with Vernon with a 163. She was a member of the inaugural team in 2013-14 and played in 68 career rounds with an 84.24 stroke average. Castillo made a career-best 77 in the first round of the RMAC North Tournament on Sept. 14, 2015.
 
UCCS finished 10 strokes behind runner-up Colorado State-Pueblo and 17 behind conference champion Regis. The Mountain Lions turned in a 31-over 319 today, tied for the fifth-best of the year and third-best of the spring, in the final round of the season.
