CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team posted its best single-round score of the season and is within three strokes of the lead after the first round of the 2017 RMAC Tournament today at the Ocotillo Golf Resort. The Mountain Lions are third in the team standings with a 27-over 315.
Alex Darwin leads the team with three-over 75 and is second on the leaderboard. She is four strokes off the lead and in position for her second runner-up performance at the RMAC Championships. Darwin recorded her third-best round of the season with a birdie on the par-five hole six and was even through the first eight holes today. She has the top eight round scores for the Mountain Lions this season.
Raquell Castillo matched her best round of the spring season with a 79 and is tied for ninth in the standings at seven strokes over par. She is in position for her first top-10 finish in two years and recorded two birdies in the first seven holes of the round.
Timbrelee McNair posted an eight-over 80 in her best opening round of the spring and
Megan Vernon rounded out the team score with an 81 in her best round of the spring.
Regina Dillon finished with an 86 and is tied for No. 28 overall and seventh among the conference freshmen.
UCCS is two strokes behind Regis and three behind Colorado State-Pueblo. The three teams will be in the same group for Tuesday's final round, which will begin at 10:15 a.m., MDT.
