PUEBLO, Colo. –
Forre Zook and
Timbrelee McNair both put themselves in the top 10 to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team to a third-place standing after the first round of the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational at the Pueblo Country Club. The pair both turned in scorecards of six-over 78 and are tied for eighth among the 78 golfers.
Zook and McNair both recorded a pair of birdies today and are six strokes off of the lead held by Mattye Mason of West Texas A&M. Zook is in line for her first top 10 finish since the 2013-14 season, and McNair is playing for her fourth top-10 finish in her fifth career tournament as a Mountain Lion.
Alex Darwin shot a nine-over 81 and placed third for UCCS and tied for No. 19 overall.
Raquell Castillo rounded out the team score with a 12-over 84 and tied for No. 37 in the tournament field.
Regina Dillon made her Mountain Lion debut with an 87 for a No. 43 position after the first round.
UCCS opened its fourth season today and tied with Bellevue University of Nebraska with a 33-over 321. The Mountain Lions are second among the nine RMAC teams in the field and five strokes behind MSU Denver. West Texas A&M leads the tournament with an 18-over 306.
The Mountain Lions will begin the final round of the tournament on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
