AURORA, Colo. –
Timbrelee McNair led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team with an 81 and tied for No. 20 in the first round for the Ranger Invitational today at Murphy Creek Golf Course. The Mountain Lions are seventh among the 14 teams with a 333 score for 45 strokes over par.
McNair recorded a birdie on hole 12 and finished nine strokes above par. She is one of eight golfers tied at No. 20 among the 75 golfers in the field. McNair is two strokes out of the top 10 and six strokes off of the lead held by MSU Denver's Jennifer Hankins.
Forre Zook and
Raquell Castillo both turned in a 10-over 82 today. Zook made two birdies in a three-hole stretch on the back nine, and finished her round today with three. She is tied for the second-most birdies in the first round. Castillo recorded a pair of birdies, including one on the par-3 hole eight.
Alex Darwin rounded out the team score with a 16-over 88.
Brianna Vetter made her first appearance as a Mountain Lion but didn't factor into the team score with a 90.
UCCS is five strokes behind sixth place Colorado State-Pueblo and 10 strokes behind fifth place Western New Mexico. California State-Monterey Bay is leading the tournament with a 19-over par 307.
The Mountain Lions will be paired with Westminster and Fort Lewis in tomorrow's final round. Action will begin at 8 a.m.
