Kyle McCloskey and sophomore
David Kimaiyo both qualified for the finals in the 1,500-meter run to lead the Mountain Lions on the first day of the 2016 RMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Lyle Hare Stadium. McCloskey finished fifth overall in 3 minutes, 56.54 seconds.
McCloskey ran under the four-minute mark for the fifth time this season and finished second in his heat to secure an automatic berth in the finals with a top-three finish in his heat. Kimaiyo ran 4:00.49 to secure the final spot in the championship race on Sunday as one of the at-large performances.
The duo will run in the finals at 12:25 p.m., on Sunday, in the first race of the day for the Mountain Lions.
Nick Lemley will be the only student-athlete in action on Saturday in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles at 6:35 p.m.
