Kyle McCloskey ran a season-best time in the 800-meter run and finished under the 4-minute mark in the 1,500-meter run for the eighth time this season as the Mountain Lions spent the final meet of the regular season at the Colorado Mines Last Chance Meet. Today is the final day to record qualifying times in for the NCAA Division II National Championships.
McCloskey finished the 800 in 1 minute, 54.97 seconds, for a converted time of 1:54.13. It was the 10th fastest time for an RMAC runner this season and four seconds faster than his time at the Colorado College Invitational on March 26. He won the 1,500-meter run in 3:57.30 for a sea-level time of 3:50.94, but his qualifying time of 3:49.18 from Friday will remain his top time of the season. McCloskey is No. 14 in the RMAC and No. 34 in the NCAA Division II performance lists.
David Kimaiyo finished the 1,500-meter run in 3:59.44 for an adjusted time of 3:53.02. His Friday qualifying time of 3:48.70 is No. 25 in the national performance lists, with some results across the nation still pending.
The NCAA will release the selections for the 2016 championships no later than 4 p.m., MDT, on Friday. The 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place May 26-28 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
