Mountain Lions Compete with Split Squads in San Diego and Golden

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior runner Kyle McCloskey finished seventh in a field of 94 runners in the 1,500-meter run and David Kimaiyo placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run as the pair led the Mountain Lion performances at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational. Nick Lemley ran a season-best 400-meter hurdle time to lead a small group at the Nature's Bakery Invitational at Colorado Mines.

McCloskey ran 3 minutes, 52.60 seconds, in his best unadjusted time of his career. He has run faster than four minutes in each of his three races this season. McCloskey's fastest qualifying time of the season is 3:50.16, based on a 3:55.78 raw time at the Colorado Invitational two weeks ago. Travis Anderson ran 4:05.08 and was less than 1.5 seconds away from his season-best time, while Willie Moore ran 4:05.87 in a performance less than a second away from his season-best.

Kimaiyo finished the 5,000-meter run in 14:44.68 late tonight to lead 10 Mountain Lions in the race. All three of his times this season have been faster than 14:45 and he remains in the top 10 of the RMAC with his time in San Francisco earlier this month. Corey Brown ran a season-best 14:54.14 to place No. 11. Seth Polich cut more than five seconds off his time this season with 15:30.38 and finished No. 26.

Lemley ran 57.01 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles in his fastest time of his career by more than eight-tenths of a second. His adjusted time for altitude moved up to 57.12 seconds and he is eighth in the RMAC performance lists. Sean Durck jumped a season-best 40 feet, 6 ¾ inches in the triple jump and matched his season-best in the long jump with 19-8 ¼.

UCCS will return to the Stermole Track and Field Complex next week for the Colorado Mines Pre-Conference Invitational. It will be the final meet before the RMAC Outdoor Championships May 6-8 in Spearfish, S.D.
