AVONDALE, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs finished its third season in program history with a runner-up finish in the 2015-16 RMAC Championship today after a 4.5-0.5 match to MSU Denver.
Timbrelee McNair tied her match with the Roadrunners to provide the half-point for UCCS at the Coldwater Golf Club.
Four of the five matches were decided by four strokes or less. McNair and
Forre Zook both turned in a 3-over 75 in today's round to lead the UCCS performances. Zook's score was her second-best round of the season but four strokes behind her playing partner.
Amanda Crites recorded a season-best 5-over 77 in a four-stroke loss, and
Alex Darwin finished one stroke behind her partner with a 7-over 79.
Raquell Castillo came in six strokes behind her partner on a 14-over 86.
The Mountain Lions finished their season with best RMAC finish in program history, and qualified for today's championship match with the best 36-hole tournament score in program history. UCCS recorded its top two rounds in program history this week and Darwin turned in the second-best scorecard in history with an even 72 in yesterday's second round.
UCCS is projected to return its entire roster for the 2016-17 season. The Mountain Lions averaged 324.8 strokes per round, an improvement of more than seven strokes per round from last year's average. UCCS finished second in two tournament this season, with both performances in the spring schedule. Darwin set the season stroke average with 80.2 and broke the previous record by 1.6 strokes per round.
