Mountain Lions Open RMAC Tournament Action on Sunday

AVONDALE, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team will enter its third RMAC Championship with the best season scoring average in program history when the 2016 championships begin Sunday at Coldwater Golf Club. The tournament format will feature 36 holes of stroke play on the first two days, with the top four teams advancing to a single round of medal-match play. The top two teams after stroke play will compete for the conference championship, with the next two teams playing for third place.

UCCS finished seventh in the conference tournament the last two seasons. The Mountain Lions enter this year's tournament with the fourth-best score among the 13 teams in the two RMAC fall events with a 72-hole score of 1,312. UCCS was eight strokes behind CSU-Pueblo and seven strokes ahead of Western New Mexico in the four rounds from the fall season.

The Mountain Lions are averaging more than a half-stroke better as a team from the fall to the spring portion of the schedule with 328.8 per round. The overall season average of 329.1 is on pace for the best in program history by three strokes per round.

Timbrelee McNair has recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in her three events this spring after her mid-year transfer from Division I South Dakota. Alex Darwin also has two top-10 finishes this year, and the duo are both averaging under 82 strokes per round this season.

UCCS has finished in the top half of its tournaments four times this season, and has three top-five finishes.

The Mountain Lions will be paired with golfers from Western New Mexico and Colorado Colorado for the first round on Sunday, and tee off on holes three through five at 12:30 p.m., MDT.
