McCloskey Eighth in Large Field to Open Outdoor Season in LA

LOS ANGELES – Kyle McCloskey finished in the top 10 in a field of 133 runners in the 1,500-meter run and David Kimaiyo ran a top-five time in program history for the 5,000-meter run as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's track and field team opened the 2016 outdoor season in the Occidental Distance Carnival.

McCloskey broke the four-minute mark for the first time in his career with 3:55.88 in his first 1,500-meter race in two seasons. He finished fifth among collegiate runners and in the top six percent of the overall field.

Kimiayo ran 14:42.71 in the 5,000-meter run for the fourth-fastest time in program history. He finished No. 23 out of 251 runners and No. 13 among collegiate runners. It was his first competition in an outdoor race in his collegiate career and he came just more than five seconds away from an NCAA provisional qualifying time.

UCCS runners will continue the outdoor season next Saturday at the Jerry Quiller Classic at CU Boulder.
