Darwin Fifth After First Round at CSU-Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore Alex Darwin shot a 4-over-par 75 to lead the Mountain Lions after the first round of the Samuel Proal Farmers Insurance Invitational today at the Pueblo Country Club. Darwin is tied for fifth in the field of 70 golfers and UCCS is ninth with a team score of 333.

Darwin was second in the tournament with three birdies and shot for par on nine holes. She was 1-over on both the par-3 and par-4 holes today and was one shot off of her personal best score. Darwin is three shots off of the lead held by MSU Denver's Cha Cha Willhoite.

Forre Zook opened her season with an 84 for 13-over-par and her sister, Jamie Zook, finished one stroke behind her. The pair finished in a tie for No. 37 and No. 43, respectively. Raquell Castillo and Amanda Crites both shared the final score for the UCCS team score with an 89 for 18-over-par.

The Mountain Lions are seven stroke behind the seventh place teams of Western New Mexico and Lubbock Christian. Wayland Baptist leads the 13 teams with a 309 for 25-over-par while Midwestern State is the top Division II team and second overall with a 312.

The final round will begin at 9 a.m.
